[Update] According to a Hungarian tech journalist, Sony and Naughty Dog will be releasing the native The Last of Us 2 PS5 version in early 2024.
“Just so you know: The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be released in early 2024 (Sony sent out the code requester)”, the (Google) translated post from the journalist reads. “This applies to the PlayStation 5 version, there is no news about the PC version yet.”
Csak, hogy tudjátok: 2024 elején jelenik meg a The Last of Us Part II Remastered (a Sony kiküldte a kódigénylőt). Ez a PlayStation 5-ös verzióra vonatkozik, PC-s változatról egyelőre nincs hír.

[Original story] A native The Last of Us 2 PS5 version has seemingly appeared on the PlayStation Network servers, suggesting that a release of the version is imminent.
For quite some time, fans have been asking for a native version of The Last of Us Part 2 on PlayStation 5. To date, players are required to play the PS4 version of the game on Sony’s console, albeit with performance enhancements. From the looks of it, however, Sony is now planning to release a native version of the game on PS5. As spotted on X by the usually-reliable PlayStation Game Size Twitter account ‘PlayStation Game Size’, a native version of the game has appeared on the PlayStation network backend. This would suggest that Sony is gearing up to release this version pretty soon.

With The Game Awards 2023 coming up in a few weeks, it’s possible that Sony plans to announce and release the version during, or shortly after, the event. Of course, this is only speculation on our part at this point. If true, it will be interesting to see which enhancements and upgrades the native PS5 version will include. We’ll update you as soon as more information about The Last of Us 2 comes in.
The Last of Us 2 was released for PS4 back in 2020. Here’s what we wrote about this highly-acclaimed sequel in our launch review back then: “The Last of Us Part II package as a whole is much more to take in than any of Naughty Dog’s previous works and I don’t just mean that with the constitution needed to sit through the sheer amount of death onscreen”, we wrote. “From the first time you pick up the controller to the last, the whole adventure marks the longest-running time in Naughty Dog’s history. My final hour count came close to the thirty-hour mark for a single playthrough. I will admit that there wasn’t a small amount of time spent scouring the corners of each combat arena and abandoned highrise apartment in search of trading cards and supplements but the entire narrative still isn’t much shorter than that.”
