TikTok rolled out a new video-editing tool today intended to help users better engage with content from other creators.
It’s called Stitch, and it lets TikTok users clip and incorporate scenes from another creator’s video into their own. They can build on trends and interact with stories, lessons, recipes, and songs, among other types of TikToks.
Video creators can indicate whether or not they want others to Stitch their content. In the Privacy and Safety page, under Settings and Privacy, they can turn Stitch on or off for individual videos or all videos. Videos that use Stitch have the original creator credited in the caption, with a link to the original video.
Here’s how to Stitch something:
-
Find a video you’d like to Stitch and hit the Send to button.
-
Press the Stitch button.
-
Select up to five seconds from the video. Trim if necessary.
-
Record your addition to the Stitched clip.
The Stitch rollout comes in the wake of TikTok CEO Kevin Meyer’s resignation amid President’s Trump effort to ban the app in the US and talks of an acquisition in the US.
