AMD is gearing up to debut a new graphics card on Wednesday, March 3.
The upcoming card will be the latest entry in the Radeon RX 6000 family. The company plans on introducing the product at 11 a.m. EST during an event that’ll be streamed online.
AMD has also released an image for the GPU, which shows a graphics card running on two fans—down from the three fans you can find on RX 6800 and 6800 XT. Hence, the image probably depicts the RX 6700, a midrange graphics card.
In a tweet about the event, AMD also referenced RDNA 2, the graphics architecture behind the GPUs. So expect the company to talk more about the latest advancements in the technology too. At last month’s CES, AMD teased RDNA 2 was coming to PC desktops and laptops.
The GPU will arrive on the heels of Nvidia’s rival RTX 3060 graphics card, which goes on sale tomorrow, Feb. 25. The product is supposed to start at $329, making it the most affordable option in the RTX 3000 series.
We’re hoping AMD will respond with a competitively priced product. Unfortunately, both Nvidia’s GPUs and AMD’s existing Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards have been hard to buy. The 6800, 6800 XT, along with the 6900 XT, remain out of stock at all the major retailers about three months after the initial launch.
Not helping the matter is the Trump-era tariffs on Chinese imports and rising manufacturing costs, which has led to GPU price hikes across the board. For example, various models for the 6800 XT can now go for $850 to $1,050 when AMD originally tried to price the product closer to $649.
We’ll have to wait and see if the company can address any of these problems holding back the PC-building community during Wednesday’s event. Stay tuned for our coverage.
