Sony is set to launch a new color option for its PS5 Pulse 3D Wireless Headset next month.
Back in June, Sony launched Midnight Black and Cosmic Red versions of the DualSense controller, but now you can color match as the new headset will also be offered in Midnight Black. There’s no word on a Cosmic Red version appearing, but it seems likely that could happen in the near future.
The headset, just like the controller, will use “two subtly different shades of black” and offers a welcome alternative to the mix of black and white of the Pulse headset Sony launched last year. It should also carry the same $99 price tag, as well as including the same dual noise-cancelling microphones, USB Type-C charging, and 3D audio tuned specifically for the PS5.
The headset will be able to take advantage of the new audio features introduced with the latest PS5 system update released today. Although the main draw of the update is support for M.2 SSDs, Sony also introduced new equalizer controls and includes three presets (Standard, Bass Boost, and Shooter) which have been optimized “to compliment PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech.” Of course, users can create their own presets and save up to three different settings.
When PCMag reviewed the Pulse 3D headset back in January, we found it to provide satisfying audio in a stylish design. You can also use the headset with a PS4, PC, or Mac if you wish. What we didn’t like was the pinhole microphone, which doesn’t sound as good as a boom mic. And if you have larger ears, this may not be a comfortable headset to wear.
