Apple’s AirPods Max Smart Case is as sleek and minimalist as its precious cargo. But if you really want to show off your over-ear headphones—even when they’re not in use—Gucci’s got you covered.
The Italian high-end luxury fashion house is selling an exclusive Ophidia case for AirPods Max, and it only costs twice as much as the headphones.
Available online only for $980 (plus upwards of $90 in tax), the brown canvas case features Gucci’s signature double-G logo, red and green bands, and splashes of gold. Inside, a bright blue neoprene and viscose lining is printed with “Hodiernum,” a Latin word meaning “belonging to the present day.” An adjustable shoulder strap adds to its versatility.
“Playing with the contrast between past and present,” the 8.3-by-5.5-by-1.4-inch case “brings vintage and contemporary together through its archive-inspired design elements,” according to Gucci’s product page.
Non-AirPods Max owners, meanwhile, can save a few bucks with Gucci’s Ophidia standard headphone case, on sale for $920. Almost identical—save for its bright orange innards—the cheaper option is also slightly smaller and fits over-ear headsets up to 6 inches wide, 7.5 inches tall, and 1.5 inches deep.
