If Elden Ring is proving too hard for some players there are easy mode mods available, but one modder decided to offer the complete opposite and implemented a hard mode for the PC version.
As PCGamer reports, the mod is called “Prepare to Die (Hard Mode)” and it was created by modder Silentverge. They also created extended field of view and disable warping mods for the game. For Hard Mode, Silentverge warns players “This mod is extremely difficult. Not for the faint of heart or easy to rage quit types.” It’s a warning worth taking seriously when you discover how the game has been modified.
With Hard Mode enabled, enemy damage, defense, and resistance are effectively quadrupled, while health, stamina, and focus remain the same. Add to that AI tweaks, which allow enemies to see and hear the player from much further away, and they can easily detect you trying to backstab them. Finally, warping is limited to churches and cathedrals. As Silentverge explains, “Enemies now are just overall smarter in most cases and sneaking around enemies is now essential to survive.”
As to why Silentverge decided to implement Hard Mode for an already difficult game? “I got sick of seeing all of these “easy mode” mods being pumped out every other day so I made this mod instead.”
While these changes may be a step too far for most players, anyone who has completed the game or simply doesn’t find it too challenging will surely be tempted to give it a go. Adding Hard Mode requires downloading and unzipping the mod to your Elden Ring directory and overwriting eldenring.exe. Be sure to make a backup copy of the original before doing this so you can quickly revert back after deciding it’s far too difficult.
