Something related to the Final Fantasy Tactics series may be in the works, as the development team is said to be heavily involved in an unspecified project.
Speaking with French publication Finaland about the mobile game Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, the Theatrhythm Final Bar Line producer Ichiro Hazama revealed that the reason many characters from Final Fantasy Tactics are not available in the game is that the team is heavily involved in another project and does not have the time to discuss the implementation of characters into the mobile game.
The Tactics team is incredibly busy at the moment, they have other things to do. They are heavily involved in another project at the moment so we just don’t have time to talk to them. I think that’s probably why more TACTICS characters haven’t been included in the game, we just need time to find out the details. I think that’s what is going on, at the very least with Tactics characters. I’m sure they will put them into the game, Fujiwara-san wants TACTICS, I know that.
While it is not yet known what this project is, it is extremely likely it is the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster that has been rumored to be in the works for some time. After having been revealed in the massive GeForce NOW leak, the game supposedly underwent playtesting in October 2021. Not much else has been heard about the game since.
A month ago, I think, the Nvidia leak showed that there was a FF Tactics Remaster being made ; I didn’t even know, just found out while searching for news regarding FF Tactics, because I just received an Eidos-Montreal playtest invitation (which also playtests Square Enix games in general), and everything seems to indicate they’re playtesting a tactical. They were asking if I played Fire Emblem, FF Tactics, Ogre Battle, Disgaea, Into the Breach, etc. At first, I thought this was about Triangle Strategy, but while they didn’t ask if I played Octopath, they did ask if I played FF12 and it’s DS sequel… the only non-tactical FF games that take place in Ivalice. They also asked if I played FF Tactics PS1 AND if I played the iOS/Android version, which seemed weird, they never ask about multiple versions of the same game.
The original Final Fantasy Tactics is now available on iOS and Android as well as on the first PlayStation and PlayStation Portable. We will keep you updated on the remaster as soon as more come in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
