After the exciting ending of the 9th edition of the Capcom Cup, which took place in Los Angeles, Capcom announced that the next season of the 2023 Capcom Pro Tour would feature the upcoming release of Street Fighter 6. Additionally, the newly announced Capcom Cup X will also feature a huge prize pool totaling at $2 Million USD.
The latest season of Capcom Pro Tour will see Street Fighter 6 competitors fighting their way to the top. Capcom Cup X, the 10th edition of this prestigious official tournament, will also have a large prize pool that will undoubtedly incentivize players to try their hardest to become the world champion. In this case, the first prize winner will bag a grand prize of $1 Million USD. This is the largest cash prize ever in the history of Capcom Cup winners.
The 2023 season of Capcom Pro Tour aims to kick off by Summer and will be comprised of offline, online, and the regional World Warrior program. This essentially allows players to qualify through three different paths, letting everyone become a competitor in whatever manner suits them the most. The Offline Premiers path lets players duke it out in offline events, which take place at FGC major events; the Online Premiers path lets players register and fight in online regional premieres across 19 territories; finally, players can also register threough the World Warrior program.
The World Warrior program is a new regional program which may be online or offline as the situation permits. World Warrior participants will have the opportunity to score points in regional leaderboards by participating in local events. The ultimate winners in each region will earn a spot at Capcom Cup X. As such, this can also be your perfect ticket to what could possibly be one of the biggest Capcom Cup events in history.
Of course, the noteworthy highlight of the announcement (besides the attractive prize pool) is the fact that matches will be played in Street Fighter 6. We took a look at the game’s second Closed Beta, and our reviewer Aernout Van Welde stated that this might become one of the best Street Fighter games to date since 3rd Strike.
I honestly didn’t think it was possible, but the latest Street Fighter 6 closed beta, even with its limited content, got me even more excited for the game. The downside is that it also made waiting even more difficult.
The game presents a combo of unique fighting game innovations across three brand new modes, which we looked at closely previously. These modes are known as Fightihng Ground, World Tour, and Battle Hub. Players can face off with their favorite characters from the Street Fighter series once the game arrives on June 2, 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
