Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games is launching sometime this year, but until now, we haven’t actually seen the hugely-anticipated sequel in action. Thankfully, during today’s big PlayStation Showcase that finally changed, as Sony shared a hearty chunk of Spider-Man 2 gameplay, and it looks like the game will live up to expectations.
We already knew Venom would factor into Spider-Man 2, but the first big reveal from the PlayStation Showcase is that you’ll get to play as Peter Parker wearing the symbiote suit that eventually bonds with Eddie Brock. It looks like Peter will have a whole new host of particularly brutal moves when donning the black duds (and a new attitude to go with it).
Ah, but Peter isn’t the only Spider-Man you’ll be playing as Sony also showed how players will be able to switch between Parker and the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man, sometimes within a single cinematic action scene. Speaking of which, the new footage culminates in an intense cinematic-style showdown with the Lizard. We also get confirmation that Kraven the Hunter will be a big factor in the game. But hey, enough of my preamble, you can check out the footage for yourself, below.
It looks like the next generation of PlayStation games has truly arrived. Spider-Man 2 not only looks next-level in terms of visual detail and effects, but the set pieces ought to be beyond anything we’ve seen to date. I’m sure the scenes we were shown today are just the beginning, and the action will get even more wild from here. Unfortunately, Sony still hasn’t locked down a specific release date, but they’re promising the game is on track to launch this fall…
“We know you have been patiently awaiting more information about the game, including when you will be playing it at home. While we can’t confirm a date today, we are on track for Fall 2023, and hope to be able to share a final release date soon. Stay tuned for future updates on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including edition information and pre-orders.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches exclusively on PS5 (although a PC port will likely come later) sometime this fall. What do you think? Ready to get web-slinging again?
