A fan Diablo 2 Unreal Engine 5 demo has been made available for download, featuring Act 3’s Durance of Hate dungeon.
Created by 3D environment artist Michal Wawruch, this Unreal Engine 5 demo is based on Blizzard’s 2021 Diablo II: Resurrected – a remaster of the PC fan-favorite from 2000. The UE5 demo benefits from Epic’s Nanite and Lumen tech, and while Blizzard’s official remaster was a big upgrade over the original, this fan demo is something else entirely. We’re pretty sure that Diablo fans will want to try out this demo, and going by some community comments, this fan demo shows what Diablo 4 could’ve been. We’ve included a video of the Unreal Engine 5 demo in action below. According to the creator of the demo, you’ll need “at least” an NVIDIA GeForce 1060 GPU in order to properly run it.

Diablo 2 was originally released for PC back in 2000. The game is considered by many as the best installment in the franchise. In 2021, Blizzard released a remastered version of the classic, featuring various QoL improvements, remastered graphics, and more. Here’s what we wrote about the remaster in our launch review:
“Diablo II is one of the best ARPG’s in gaming history, and Vicarious Visions haven’t made many changes for Diablo II: Resurrected”, our very own Chris Wray wrote. “Visually, there’s a stark difference and it looks great while keeping the atmosphere. A few quality of life changes help keep this fresh and make it playable on consoles, but it just doesn’t go far enough at points. This ageing master may have had a facelift, and it’s one you can have a fantastic time with, but you can hear the creaking of its bones.”
