We heard recently that Starfield was getting ready to add support for FSR 3 for those who opt into beta testing, and it seems today is the day! A new Starfield Steam Beta update adds FSR 3, which will deliver smoother performance via frame generation, similar to the already-available DLSS 3. Players can also look forward to support for XeSS, some fixes for some vexing save file stability issues, and more.
You can check out the full patch notes for Starfield update 1.9.67 below…
Graphics
- Added support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3). (PC)
- Added support for Intel Xe Super Sampling (XeSS). (PC)
- Fixed an issue that could make the clouds appear to vibrate when using DLSS performance mode. (PC)
- Fixed minor visual artifact that could occur when aiming with a weapon or task swapping.
Stability
- Changed how FormIDs are freed when loading saves. This should improve stability for saves that have visited many locations.
- Fixed a crash that could happen when making changes to the ship that required all items to be moved to the cargo bay in the Ship Builder menu.
Miscellaneous
- Reverted a change that caused the data menu to open when taking screenshots with F12 (PC)
- Fixed an issue causing the resolution scale to reset to 1.0 when switching from Fullscreen to Windowed mode when using DLSS. (PC)
While only available in beta for now, FSR 3 and XeSS support will roll out to everyone later this month, likely alongside the next major Starfield update. Bethesda has promised to deliver big updates for Starfield every six months, but they’ll be interspersed with smaller updates like this one. Haven’t been keeping up with Starfield? Francesco De Meo found it to be a satisfying experience despite the world not being as seamless as advertised in his full review…
“With an engaging story, well-developed characters and lore, and a huge amount of meaningful content, Starfield is one of Bethesda’s finest games and one of the best role-playing games released in the past few years. The lack of seamless exploration and real innovation of the typical gameplay formula from the studio are noteworthy, but those willing to forego these issues will find a reactive and sprawling sci-fi universe to lose themselves in for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours.”
Starfield can be played on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. Again, The latest update is available via Steam Beta now.
