Note: This is a developing story. More info about Concord will be added shortly.
While we’ve known about the existence of Concord for over a year now, Sony’s new PvP multiplayer shooter has remained quite mysterious. The game is the work of Firewalk Studios, a new startup headed up by a team of Destiny vets, and teasers have hinted at a colorful, character-driven approach to the genre. Beyond that, details have been scant.
Well, today during Sony’s latest State of Play showcase, we finally got a real look at Concord, as well as a rough August release window for the game. The game is a Overwatch-style 5v5 arena hero shooter, featuring a cast of “Freegunners,” very clearly inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy. Overall, gameplay looks polished, with visuals well beyond most multiplayer shooters (certainly far beyond what Overwatch is doing these days). Interestingly, Sony also hints that story elements and missions will be woven directly into the game, rather than just on the side. You can check out the first cinematic trailer for Concord for yourself, below.
And here’s a meaty look at actual Concord gameplay…
Concord is slated to launch on PC and PS5 on August 23. What do you think? Does Sony’s latest venture into the realm of live service games look promising?
