Produced alongside our friends at PocketGamer.fun – THE place to discover your next favourite mobile games – here’s our pick of the best fresh-this-week titles.
While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game. PocketGamer.fun brings you latest games, lets you see them in action and download right from the page.
So here are the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
The Case of the Golden Idol
Netflix subscribers can now don the cap of an 18th-century detective in The Case of the Golden Idol and investigate the mystery behind 12 unusual deaths over multiple decades, each strangely connected to the last.
Developed by Color Gray Games and published by Playstack, this 2022 title has finally made its way onto Netflix’s service to give its subscribers a real sleuthing challenge, with a non-linear deduction system opening up endless ways to investigate the dozen murders and devious motivations behind them. Prequel chapters The Spider of Lanka and The Lemurian Vampire are also included at no extra cost, bringing even more crime scenes into the fold with a conspiracy to solve.
The Case of the Golden Idol received much praise for its narrative and artstyle when it first launched on MacOS and Windows. Now, eager gumshoes can get investigating on mobile too, provided they have a Netflix subscription; that part’s elementary.
Neopets: Tales of Dacardia
Available to all mobile gamers on iOS and Android, Neopets: Tales of Dacardia brings a new adventure to Neopia with many colourful lands to traverse and explore. A city builder come crafting simulator, Tales of Dacardia tasks players with building up a town from new, heading out into the world and encountering Neopets.
Of course, the cute creatures players form alliances with also need their own customisable homes – the Neohomes – whether they’re wolves, crabs or even dragons. It’s all for the betterment of the Dacardian community, ravaged by a great storm. Whether the cause of a natural disaster or something slightly more sinister, gamers will discover along the way…
Neopets: Tales of Dacardia soft launched in Canada this spring and has now fully released. It was being developed by Jumpstart, but the studio closed in 2023 and the game is now listed on app stores as a World of Neopia game. The Neopets brand has been around since 1999, well established after 25 years and evolving over time from a virtual pet website into this latest form, a vibrant new mobile game.
Parcel Panic
Crescent Moon Games’ iOS exclusive Parcel Panic sees Apple players take control of a robot and shoot their way through a seemingly endless conveyer belt of parcels. That right: shoot. Because instead of helping out with the supply line, this robot has a penchant for blasting boxes.
Each box has its own number of hits to be blown apart and must be shot that many times before it reaches the robot, who can use different guns and gear depending on the situation and the player’s preferences. Naturally, this gear can be upgraded for a better chance at survival against the cardboard flood.
Random enemies can also skip their way down the belt, as can bombs, so the robot’s defence is important too – with another upgrade system. Crescent Moon Games has given each weapon its own characteristic and even developed a range of hats for the robot to wear. Turns out they can get chilly too!
Pocket Partner
In an increasingly isolating world where everyone spends too much time on their phones (is there such a thing?), where better to make new friends than on mobile? Pocket Partner aims to answer that question, as a Tamagotchi-like where the creature in players’ pockets is actually a human being. Or, a simulated one, anyway.
HyperBeard Games virtual buddies have already landed on iOS and are coming soon to Android, offering everyone a chance to eat with a simulated friend, dress up together, and even bond over activities like dancing and taking photos together. They may not be real friends, but they’ll be with you wherever you go…
A virtual friendship game is certainly in line with HyperBeard’s cozy collection, which includes Pocket Love and one of the cutest games out there, Campfire Cat Café.
Olympics Go! Paris 2024
nWay is back with another officially licenced Olympics game, this time linked to the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris. But this latest mobile game isn’t just a sports title – it’s also a city builder, tasking eager athletes with upgrading stadiums and unlocking new shops to build up the city.
Licenced by the International Olympic Committee, Olympics Go! Paris 2024 features 12 minigames including archery, skating, and a new addition: breakdancing. The range of activities are naturally based on Olympic sports, aiming to encapsulate the spirit of the event.
And out now on Apple’s App Store, Google Play, and the Epic Games Store, just about everyone can get to playing, anywhere in the world.
