San Francisco-based social platform Dusk has raised $8 million in funding to expand its operations and development efforts.
Makers Fund and byFounders led the round with participation from games company founders including Ben Liu (Pocket Gems), Thomas Hartwig (King) and Adi Rathnam (Kamkord).
The platform aims to simplify building and playing multiplayer games on mobile through its Dusk SDK. It offers cross-platform support, including for browser-based titles.
For players, Dusk provides a social experience with features like voice chat, customisable avatars, and group chats.
Revolutionising social multiplayer games
“Dusk completely reimagines social multiplayer gaming for the mobile generation. Existing gaming platforms target a more hardcore audience playing on PC and console,” said Dusk CEO and co-founder Sanjay Guruprasad.
“Gen Z wants fun, casual games that they can play together on their phones as they share a laugh on voice chat.
“This funding is a testament to the confidence our investors have in our vision to revolutionise how social multiplayer games are built and played on mobile.”
Developers can use the Dusk SDK to build games as if players are on a single device, with the SDK managing networking, latency, and conflict resolution.
The company said this allows games to scale for players across continents. During the beta, over 50 titles were built by indie developers using the Dusk SDK.
