While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game. PocketGamer.fun brings you latest games, lets you see them in action and download right from the page.
So here are the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
Levels II
The latest merge game from Tokyo-based indie studio flow Inc. combines the puzzle genre and minimalist aesthetics and throws in a dash of RPG elements for good measure. The result is a title where dungeons demand exploration and slumbering treasure offers a tempting reward.
That dungeon explorer is, of course, Levels II. But these dungeons aren’t quite so straightforward as wandering through labyrinths and investigating nooks and crannies – rather, they’re represented in tile form with a board full of colours to match and gold to collect.
Cranking minimalism to the match, Levels II trusts in players’ imagination to understand their conquests: eliminating a red card means taking down a monster, the yellow card that spawns in victory is the embodiment of a treasured prize. It’s a bold approach for a modern mobile title that in many ways feels like a classic card game.
Zoeti
Speaking of cards, roguelike deck-builder Zoeti has made its way to mobile and brought Poker-inspired combat along for the ride. Developer Dusklight Games released this title on PC and Nintendo Switch last year, and now it’s expanded its reach as a premium game on iOS and Android.
Part card battler and part puzzler, Zoeti tasks players with forming a cleverly combined deck bursting with combo potential, leading to powerful skills befitting a Star-Soul hero. Narratively, winning these card-based battles means besting monsters, defending local denizens, and preserving the titular land of Zoeti.
Akupara Games helped to make this mobile adaptation possible, known for porting games across platforms including Rain World: Downpour, Whispering Willows and Kardboard Kings.
Demon Squad: Idle RPG
Demons, assemble! The latest Korean RPG is here in the form of Demon Squad: Idle RPG, available globally on iOS and Android with up to 48 hours’ worth of AFK rewards at a time. Could it be any easier to save the world?
SuperPlanet has pumped Demon Squad full of flashy visuals and fast progression to save players from the material grind, giving the sense that every play session has purpose. As the name implies, it’s all about building a squad of powerful demons and battling to victory – manually or automatically. There are tonnes of character compositions to try out and a range of skills, runes, relics and even pets to collect.
And for the more competitive RPG players, Demon Squad also features a PvP mode where squads can duke it out to become the strongest of them all.
Construction Simulator 4 Lite
Independent Arts Software’s Construction Simulator 4 now has a Lite edition, giving everyone the chance to try out some mechanical simulation across a range of licenced machines. Serving as a demo of sorts, the Lite version offers a taster of different construction jobs and the equipment available, hoping to convince digital constructors to make the leap to a full purchase.
Progress in the Lite version can be carried over to the full game, which has 80 machines spanning more than 20 brands, including trucks, diggers, cranes and everything a builder could possibly want to get the job done – hardhats not included. It was released in partnership with astragon and even allows for co-op with fellow construction buddies.
Because everything’s bound to go smoother with two pals on the site… Right?
Easy Chess
Serving as an introduction to the wonderful world of chess – the grandfather of so many video game mechanics known today – Easy Chess is a new mobile game from Easybrain blending education with entertainment.
Out in soft launch, this title teaches the uninitiated the basics of the chess board, provides lessons on how pieces move, and offers hints and tips to improve one’s ability. At a more advanced level, it serves as a space to explore new strategies, engage with pre-built scenarios and overcome specific challenges – from openings to midgames to endgames.
Players can also choose between offline and online matches, playing alone or with friends, whether they’re a complete beginner or something of a grandmaster themselves.
