While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game. PocketGamer.fun brings you latest games, lets you see them in action and download right from the page.
So here are the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
The Elder Scrolls: Castles
A series with a 30-year legacy like The Elder Scrolls needs no introduction, but we’ll give one to the latest mobile-exclusive entry anyway. The Elder Scrolls: Castles is a brand-new Bethesda game that departs from the main series’ action RPG gameplay and opts instead for a simulated style, serving as something of a spiritual successor to Fallout Shelter.
Available now on Apple’s App Store and Google Play, Castles gives series veterans and newcomers control over their own castle in The Elder Scrolls universe.
One year will advance in-game for every real-world day that passes, giving obvious incentive to check in daily and watch citizens grow, work, raise the next generation and, of course, enter conflict; they might support the player’s kingdom or come to betray it, even going so far as usurping royalty if they’re so inclined.
There’s a strategic element in players’ decisions throughout the game, such as prioritising isolationist advancements or aiding neighbouring kingdoms – risking lives in the short term for potential long-term gains and alliances.
Over two million eager strategists pre-registered for the title before its launch and have been rewarded with a free Legendary Subject Ulfric Stormcloak for their interest.
Nigoriri Angels on Stage!
Bringing a bright splash of colour to this week’s mobile lineup, Nigoriri Angels on Stage! offers flashy cosplay battles between vibrant cel-shaded characters from the 2.5 Dimensional Seduction manga. It’s the latest multimedia push for the series after premiering an anime this July.
Offering series fans and cosplay enthusiasts the chance to experience the story in RPG form – whether for the first or second time – Nigoriri Angels on Stage! features a fully voice acted story and includes an origin story for high school teacher and manga club advisor Mayuri Hanyu.
The game comes as a collaborative work between Aiming Inc, Team Caravan and, of course, the series’ writer and illustrator Yu Hashimoto. Aiming has plenty of experience with anime RPGs, with previous titles including The Eminence in Shadow: Master of Garden, Tap Hunter Swords and Sorcery Idle RPG and Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
Immortal: Dark Slayer
Taking a darker turn, action RPG Immortal: Dark Slayer is a procedurally generated open-world game in a medieval fantasy setting, brimming with hordes of classic monsters like orcs, demons and even werewolves.
The first mobile game from developer [GOLEM], this RPG takes a Metroidvania-esque approach to location structure with a variety of aesthetic zones like forests, icy wastelands and cult temples. There are also various weapons to collect and bosses to overcome during this tale of a fallen knight searching for his soul.
More so aimed at mature audiences, Immortal: Dark Slayer’s combat sees players dismember their enemies and leave a trail of gore behind them as they progress towards the final boss. Whether they choose to present themselves as noble paladins or bloodthirsty berserkers along the way is up to the player.
Overboss
No more being the hero; in Overboss, you get to become the story’s villain. Developed by TavroxGames and published by French indie game makers Goblinz Studio.
Overboss sets players on a retro-inspired board game journey, where it’s your job to become a master of monsters and build dungeons.
Players explore various terrain tiles, recruit monsters and build their own dungeon in Overboss – with features that allow the player to fill out the game’s maps using portals, moving monsters and minibosses around with the ultimate goal of conquering the overworld.
Overboss is a cross-platform title available on PC, console, and mobile.
Fairy Tale Traveler M
From being the villain to a fairytale traveller. Solaplay Mobile’s FairyTale Traveler M lets you embark on a mystical journey in this heartwarming MMO title. The game features daily guild activity, weekly challenges, pet characters and an open-world sense of exploration.
Players can embark on journeys with fan-favourite characters, from exploring the enchanted forests with Little Red Riding Hood to riding with Mr Rabbit and joining Cinerall for finishing and cooking adventures.
FairyTale Traveler M lets players forget about saving – or destroying – the world and instead offers an endless journey through a fairytale-riddled world.
