Mario + Rabbids director Davide Soliani and Red Dead Redemption lead designer Christian Cantamessa have teamed up to form the brand-new studio Day 4 Night.
The studio is currently at work on its first original IP. PUBG publisher Krafton led the studio’s first funding round, with further participation from 1Up Ventures.
Let’s-a go!
While few details about Day 4 Night’s original IP have emerged as yet, Soliani brings experience to the studio from games like Mario + Rabbids and Rayman in the Phantom Show.
Meanwhile, Cantamessa not only led Red Dead Redemption’s design but also wrote Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. His other credits include classic shooter Perfect Dark.
Fellow co-founders Cristina Nava, Gian Marco Zanna and Luca Breda, meanwhile, have worked together for more than 15 years on games like Mario + Rabbids, Star Wars Outlaws and the Just Dance series.
“When I first fell in love with video games at the start of my career, I saw the power of this new medium to tell stories never told before and create worlds that could transform people,” said Cantamessa.
“Day 4 Night is a return to that innovative spirit, to that innocence, to that unbridled creativity.”
Soliani added: “What we are crafting at Day 4 Night is a reflection of everything I’ve ever wanted to experience as a player – joy, adventure, poetry, action, wonder, and the pleasure of working with friends.
“It’s a lullaby for my soul and a serenade to our industry, to the magic and the madness of creating worlds from nothing. It’s a story about triumphs, challenges, dreams, to light the path we walk together.”
Krafton support
The studio said the focus for its debut title would be on “originality and innovation”, with the aim to produce “heartfelt” games that push “the boundaries of storytelling and game design”. Target platforms for the new title have yet to be announced.
“Day 4 Night’s pitch presented a highly engaging and captivating story,” said Krafton VP and head of corporate development Maria Park.
“The game’s vision stands out as both original and creative, making it a great match for the type of studios we aim to support at Krafton.”
