Produced alongside our friends at PocketGamer.fun – THE place to discover your next favourite mobile games – here’s our pick of the best fresh-this-week titles.
While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game. PocketGamer.fun brings you latest games, lets you see them in action and download right from the page.
So here are the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket
The latest addition to The Pokémon Company’s mobile lineup has finally landed in the form of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, a title that turns the hugely successful physical TCG into a bite-sized mobile game complete with battles, collections and, of course, Pokémon cards.
Pocket has been developed in collaboration between The Pokémon Company, physical Pokémon TCG creator Creatures Inc, and Pokémon Masters developer DeNA, adapting countless cards dating right back to 1996 into digital form.
Having such a long legacy of artwork to draw from, Pocket has launched with a mixture of new and old cards – ranging from Pikachu’s original, slightly less athletic design, to a modern Mewtwo that literally bursts beyond the card; Immersive Cards like these wouldn’t be possible in the physical TCG and are therefore a key selling point in Pocket.
Another selling point is the game’s focus on the original 151 – the first Pokémon introduced that fans of Red and Blue would be most familiar with. The same collection of creatures featured during Pokémon Go’s first year, although Pocket has added a handful of newer Pokémon too like Gardevoir and Melmetal.
Lord of Nazarick
Gamifying the first season of the Overlord anime, A Plus Japan and Crunchyroll have launched a turn-based mobile RPG titled Lord of Nazarick. The game transforms the Overlord story into a series of intense battles with an in-depth, faithful narrative just in time for Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom’s release in cinemas next week.
More than 50 characters are present and accounted for as of the game’s launch and the anime aesthetic has been preserved. Furthermore, anime fans with a Crunchyroll subscription (which costs $6 per month) are eligible for a number of paid items for free, including Lord of Nazarick’s battle pass and a flood of in-game currency worth over $35.
Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice
Steampunk city builder Frostpunk has finally thawed on mobile in an official adaptation titled Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice. More than six years after its original release, the survival game once again pits 19th century steam power against the bitter-cold climate and tasks fans and newcomers alike with formulating the right strategy to survive.
Players can also visit and study their friends’ city layouts to ideate and iterate upon their own, socialise online and even rescue animals from the dangers of the sudden Ice Age. There are also global meetings which can increase a player’s presence as they try to compete and coexist with others.
While the original Frostpunk was developed and published by 11 Bit Studios, the team has partnered with South Korean publisher Com2uS to deliver Beyond the Ice on mobile, best known for games like Summoners War.
Bellemint
Women-founded Muus Collective has soft-launched its debut game Bellemint in the US, developed in collaboration with fashion retailer Revolve. The brand-based dress-up game merges mobile mechanics and e-commerce with virtual shops depicting real wardrobe choices.
This means aspiring stylists can accumulate a virtual collection and dress up their avatars in any conceivable combination – provided it comes from Revolve’s catalogue. In turn, users may then be inspired to buy the physical attire IRL.
Players can currently customise their avatars’ hair, eyes, brows, body size and, of course, outfit, with more features promised in future updates. The full global launch is planned for 2025.
Bloons Card Storm
The Bloons series is back again and this time with a deck-based twist, trading genres for something more card-centric. The franchise is fast approaching its 18th anniversary and this latest entry marks the first in three years, further expanding the Bloons brand from puzzle to tower defence to collectable card game.
Aptly named Bloons Card Storm, this latest entry offers players plenty of PvE and PvP content to dart between with the help of familiar faces from the Bloons universe.
Appearing in card form, there are 123 characters as of launch including 40 new additions since the beta test, breaking into triple digits and opening up that many more potential strategies.
For players seeking even more challenges, there’s also a single-player DLC adventure available for purchase. Developer Ninja Kiwi intends to continue adding new features, cards and more in the future.
