Lilith Games’ AFK Journey has won Best Game at the Google Play Awards 2024, chosen for its tactical gameplay, vast world and “beautiful art style”.
A number of the year’s biggest mobile hits from around the world have picked up new accolades, in fact, as have indie successes.
Among the heavy hitters, Supercell won two awards this year with Clash of Clans earning Best Multi-Device Game of 2024. The RTS game is already 12 years old on mobile but has been newly optimised for PC.
While it missed out on Best Game, Supercell’s ensemble action title Squad Busters did pick up Best Multiplayer Game this year. The new title made more than $50 million in gross player spending over its first two months, landing among the industry’s most lucrative launches of the year.
Winners all around
Meanwhile, over in Asia, NetEase’s Eggy Party won Best Pick Up & Play. The party title helped drive NetEase’s revenue up to $11.5 billion last year and has reached 500 million players in 2024 – all that before its expansion from mobile to Nintendo Switch.
South Korean developer Netmarble picked up Best Story 2024 for its action RPG Solo Leveling: Arise, which is currently celebrating its six-month anniversary and over 50 million installs.
As for last year’s Best Game, HoYoverse’s Honkai: Star Rail made a return in winning Best Ongoing in 2024. It “took [Google Play’s] breath away” last year and has continued to excel in 2024, at times outperforming its predecessor and RPG giant Genshin Impact and zooming past $1 billion in mobile revenue by its first anniversary.
Noodlecake’s Yes, Your Grace won Best Indie, combining village management with Slavic monsters, and Kids at Play’s Tab Time World won Best for Families.
Ironhide Game Studio picked up Best on Play Pass with Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance, while Best for Google Play Games on PC went to Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures – also available on Android and once again demonstrating Devsisters’ ability to upsell multiple games without cannibalising the IP.
Of course, many of the devs present also rank among our Top 50 Mobile Game Makers 2024.
