Like a Dragon series developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced two different projects today, a new entry in the Virtua Fighter series as well as a brand new promising project.
During today’s The Game Awards Show, it was confirmed with a short announcement trailer that the Japanese studio is working on the next entry in the long-running fighting game series by SEGA, which hasn’t seen a brand new entry in a very long time. Not a whole lot was shown, but additional information on the game will be coming tomorrow, December 13th, during a VF Direct special livestream.
Along with announcing the new Virtua Fighter, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio also revealed Project Century, a new IP that seems to share some similarities with the Like a Dragon series. Little is known about this project, but it looked extremely promising in the trailer showed today, which you can find below courtesy of YouTube member Ferinus.
The new Virtua Fighter and Project Century developer is quickly becoming one of the most prolific game development studios around. This February, RGG Studio is launching Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, a new entry in their popular series starring Goro Majima, a little over a year after launching the excellent Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. You can learn more about the latest game from the Japanese studio in our review.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth serves as the real bridge between the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series into one cohesive experience. It’s the perfect sendoff for Kiryu and a passing of the torch to the plucky Ichiban Kasuga. In a lot of ways, Infinite Wealth builds upon the past with callbacks that series fans could appreciate. It’s a Japanese RPG experience that could only best be described as Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s Metal Gear Solid 4 moment.
