Netflix is offering its new online party game Squid Game: Unleashed to everyone including non-subscribers ahead of the show’s second season.
The streaming firm’s titles are typically only available for download on mobile by subscribers to its service. In a blog post, Netflix said that players can also earn in-game rewards for each episode watched. Rewards consist of cash and wild tokens, which can be used to level up characters, unlock mystery boxes, and purchase items from the in-game store.
The first reward is given to all players for free, with no need to watch any episodes of season 2 to unlock it. Subsequent rewards are earned by watching episodes, starting with 15,000 cash for free, followed by 20 wild tokens for watching one episode, and 20,000 cash for the second episode.
Players earn 25 wild tokens for watching a third episode, 25,000 cash for the fourth, and 50 wild tokens for the fifth. Watching the sixth episode unlocks 50,000 cash, while the seventh rewards players with a Binni Binge-Watcher outfit.
Squid Game: Unleashed is an online party royale game for up to 32 players, where they compete in live-or-die versions of games like Glass Bridge and Red Light, Green Light from the popular Netflix series.
Leveraging previous success
“Squid Game is Netflix’s most-watched series ever, and we want everyone around the world to be able to take part in its return by making Unleashed available to everyone, which is a first for Netflix Games,” said Netflix president of games Alain Tascan.
“Squid Game: Unleashed is all about playing with (or against) your friends in the iconic games from the series like Glass Bridge and Red Light, Green Light, so we’re inviting everyone into the chaos this holiday season.”
Earlier this year, Netflix removed Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City from its games library, part of the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition Trilogy released a year ago, leaving only GTA: San Andreas available for now.
