A flash memory provider plans to sell Acer-branded SSDs in the US and Europe.
Chinese supplier BIWIN struck an agreement with Acer to manufacture the memory products for consumers and businesses. The deal includes permission to use Acer’s Predator gaming brand.
The announcement from BIWIN—which currently makes memory products for HP—is pretty low-key. Acer does not appear to have mentioned the partnership through its own PR or social media channels. We reached out to the PC maker, and will update the story if we hear back.
In the meantime, BIWIN is promoting the upcoming products through a new website at Acerstorage.com. The supplier is preparing an NVME SSD called the Acer FA100, which uses PCIe 3.0 to enable 3,300MB/s and 2700MB/s read/write speeds—on par with other affordable consumer NVME drives.
BIWIN is also working on a 2.5-inch internal SSD SATA drive called the SA100. It’ll offer up to 560MB/s and 500MB/s on read/write speeds. Both can be purchased with up to 2TB of storage.
Other upcoming products include Acer-branded RAM modules for both PCs and desktops. However, there’s no word on pricing or exact launch dates.
The memory products are also coming to Acer’s Predator PC gaming brand. The site Predatorstorage.com lists two two RAM modules, along with an upcoming NVME SSD drive that’ll offer 3400MB/s 3000 MB/s read-write speeds.
The BIWIN partnership arrives months after Taiwanse PC maker MSI announced it was entering into the SSD storage market. However, in MSI’s case, the company is touting an upcoming product that’ll use PCIe 4.0 to deliver much faster 7,000MB/s read speeds.
