It is the unfortunate reality of the gaming industry that harassment can occur at any moment for any reason. Be it for announcing the delay of a game or, in the case of the latest news surrounding the voice actress of Ada Wong from Resident Evil 4 Remake: Existing. Indeed, it seems like the voice actress for this iconic character has received harassment that has become so overwhelming that she has deleted her Instagram account.
So, who is this voice actress? The actress in question is Lily Gao. She was brought in to bring life to Ada Wong in the remake of Resident Evil 4. Unfortunately, the thing is that some fanboys weren’t so happy with her performance and, as such, took to social media to harass her about it. The harassment was so overwhelming that she deleted her Instagram profile, leaving only speculation about whether she will continue with her role for the Separate Ways DLC, which was recently datamined.

So, why the abuse? Well, it seems like some of the people who heard the performance that Lily Gao gave when doing her Ada Wong role didn’t particularly like it. Below, you can see some of the examples of the hate comments that Lily was receiving in regards to her performance as highlighted by a Twitter user.

Regardless of people’s thoughts toward Ada’s performance (as there have been folks who loved Lily Gao’s voice acting) in Resident Evil 4 Remake, it is deplorable to see this behavior being spread this badly to the point of making the actress quit social media altogether. According to another Twitter user, this behavior has also extended to other voice actresses that have done Ada Wong’s role in previous iterations.
what’s happening with ada’s VA in resident evil 4 (2023) is beyond unacceptable. everyone has opinions according to their own experience, but going to her social media (and even past VAs of the character) to offend her is sickening and deplorable.
respect lily gao and her work. pic.twitter.com/VxByjojlME

After all of this, as said before, people are now wondering if Lily Gao will still perform her role as Ada Wong in the upcoming Separate Ways DLC or if the role will be recast by Capcom following the harassment the character has received. Of course, the lines could’ve already been recorded, so the voice actress is probably also preparing for the second wave of harassment that will inevitably come whenever Separate Ways comes out.
For now, Resident Evil 4 Remake is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. The Mercenaries mode will arrive as a free update on April 7.
