After last month’s product recall, Facebook is resuming sales of the Oculus Quest 2 with a new model that doubles the onboard storage without increasing the price.
On Tuesday, the company debuted the 128GB model of the VR headset, which will cost $299. “Long story short? We’ve created this 128GB model so that players can easily store and access more games and apps on a single device. Simple,” Facebook said.
Indeed, the original model only came with 64GB of memory, with no expandable storage capacity. To get more memory, you had to pay for the 256GB model, which goes for $399, but is currently out of stock.
Facebook hit pause on the Oculus Quest 2 sales after the company found that the interior foam inside the VR headset was causing skin irritation issues for some owners, including rashes, bumps, and itching.
“As more people got into VR with Quest 2, we started receiving reports that a very small percentage of Quest 2 customers experienced some skin irritation after using the removable foam facial interface,” Andrew Bosworth, the head of Facebook Reality Labs, wrote last month.
Fortunately, the interior foam is removable. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an advisory to recall about 4 million foam facial units. Facebook, meanwhile, offered all owners a free silicon cover to replace the defective component.
The new 128GB model Oculus Quest 2 will also come with the improved silicon cover. You can buy the product on the official website or from retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy.
