Remedy Entertainment used The Game Awards to announce Alan Wake 2 is in development and expected to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2023.
The original Alan Wake is classed as a psychological thriller, but Remedy says Alan Wake 2 will be the developer’s “first dive into survival horror.” Little is known about the next chapter of the Alan Wake story beyond what’s contained in the announcement trailer below:
With the release of the teaser video, Remedy stated, “Now that the sequel has been announced and the trailer is out, we are going to go “dark” until Summer of 2022 when we’ll return to shed more light on the game.” So we shouldn’t expect to hear anymore about it until then.
Gamers planning to play Alan Wake 2 on PC should be aware that it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive and a page is already live where you can wishlist the title. Typically these exclusive releases have a time limit, and I’d be surprised if the game doesn’t eventually pop-up on Steam. However, as Epic is publishing the game the wait for a Steam version could be a long one. An Epic Games Store account is free, so this certainly isn’t a barrier to entry like console exclusives can be.
Interest in Alan Wake has surged this year due mainly to the launch of Alan Wake Remastered, which Epic Games also published and is therefore also an exclusive to the Epic Games Store. The game is also available to play on PS5, PS4/Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X.
