Amazon is making it a little bit easier to share your favorite video content with a new X-Ray-powered clip-sharing tool in the Prime Video app for iOS.
Amazon explains that users watching select Prime Video content will get the option to “Share a clip” during playback. This will then select the last 30 seconds of what you’ve been watching and create a clip of it. The Prime Video app will present you with a basic editor to make adjustments to the clip and preview it so you can ensure you’re including the bits you want to share.
Amazon will allow these clips to be shared via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, iMessage, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
For now, it’s only available on iOS; Android, PC, and smart TV Prime Video viewers will have to wait. The content available for sharing is also restricted to four Amazon Original series: The Boys (Season One), The Wilds, Invincible, and Fairfax. Amazon plans to include more series and Amazon Original movies in the future.
Amazon’s focus appears to be on its own original content, which makes sense given that it owns the rights to those shows. As streaming services fight for viewers, it’s a way for Amazon to drum up some engagement on social media for its originals. For the most part, anti-piracy efforts make that difficult; if you take a screenshot on services like Amazon Video or Netflix, for example, you’ll get nothing but a black screen.
