Whether you spend your days staring at a screen or under the sun’s bright rays, Amazon wants its Echo Frames smart audio glasses to work for you, so we’re getting sunglass and blue light filtering lens options.
Designed to offer a hands-free Alexa experience, the prescription-ready Bluetooth specs launched late last year, enabling wearers to make phone calls, set reminders, listen to podcasts, read notifications, and more—from their face. But Amazon is now expanding the options for your Echo Frames with the introduction of sunglass and blue-light-filtering lens options for folks with 20/20 vision.
Available in two polarized tints—classic or blue mirror—the lightweight sunglasses can withstand splashes of water and sweat, “making them great for going on a neighborhood walk or hike, or relaxing outside while enjoying nice weather,” according to Amazon.
Prefer to spend time indoors, behind the comfort of your phone, game console, or computer screen? Amazon’s blue-light-filtering lenses—specially crafted to protect your eyes from glare and reduce damage to your retinas—are the obvious choice, “whether you’re focusing on a work project or playing video games late into the night.”
Nestled in the temples, Echo Frames’ open-ear audio tech directs sound to your ears, so you can join a conference call, catch up with a friend, or even drop in to connected Alexa-enabled devices at home without suppressing your surroundings.
The same goes for listening to audiobooks and podcasts, which are easily controlled by saying, “Alexa, next” or “Alexa, previous.” And, with Auto Volume Control, you can choose to have Echo Frames adjust playback based on environmental noise.
Use your smart glasses to access information on the go, from food pickup and delivery options or directions to the closest ATM to local weather reports and the nearest coffee shop. Alexa can also check your calendar, reorder dog food, set a pizza timer for 20 minutes, or remind you to stand up and stretch.
There’s no mini-digital display in the lenses, so don’t expect an augmented reality overlay experience. Instead, there’s four microphones, making it easy to stay connected when you want and power down when you don’t; double-press the action button at the bottom of the right temple to turn the microphones off, indicated by a red light.
Grab a pair of Echo Frames with polarized blue mirror sunglass lenses today, or wait until June 9, when blue-light-filtering and polarized classic sunglass lenses begin shipping. All new options come in Classic Black frames for $269.99.
