Amazon has decided the best way to encourage more of its employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 is by running a corporate lottery with some irresistable prizes.
As Bloomberg reports, the lottery is called “Max Your Vax” and it’s offering some seriously big rewards for employees who first prove they’ve been vaccinated. In total, 18 prizes are on offer worth around $2 million. Those prizes include two $500,000 cash rewards, six $100,000 cash rewards, five brand new vehicles, and five vacation packages.
The lottery is open to all of Amazon’s frontline workers, including warehouse and logistics staff, Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh workers, and anyone located in an Amazon Web Services data center. It’s sure to attract a lot of interest, especially because of those top two $500,000 prizes which may actually result in the winners quitting their jobs.
The decision to run a lottery comes shortly after Amazon announced employees won’t return to the office until January next year and as masks are made mandatory for all warehouse workers.
In an email to Bloomberg, Kelly Nantel, a spokesperson for Amazon said, “We strongly believe that the best way to protect our front-line employees and communities from Covid-19 is through vaccinations … And we are proud to have hosted more than 1,100 on-site vaccination events to help make getting a vaccination as easy as possible for our employees and their household members.”
