Amazon launched its Luna service in Early Access form in September last year. Access was limited by requiring an invitation, not only for the service, but for the Luna Controller, too. However, access restrictions have been relaxed and more gamers can now give Amazon’s game streaming service a try in the US.
Gabi Knight, Director on the Amazon Luna team, announced yesterday that access to Luna has been extended to more Fire TV customers. The list of supported Fire TV devices now includes:
- Fire TV Stick Lite
- Fire TV Stick (2nd & 3rd generation)
- Fire TV Stick 4K
- Fire TV (3rd generation)
- Fire TV Cube
- Toshiba Fire TV Edition
- Insignia Fire TV Edition
The excellent Luna Controller can now also be purchased without requiring an invitation. As PCMag’s review explains, the gamepad contains a dedicated WiFi chip providing the optimal Luna game-streaming experience, so is a recommended purchase for anyone wishing to play games through Luna.
So with access unlocked for more people, what can you expect? The Luna Controller costs $69.99, where as the Luna+ channel offers a seven-day free trial followed by a $5.99/month subscription. Play time is unlimited and streaming is up to 1080p and 60fps with 4K streaming promised soon. You can also stream to two devices at a time and play on PC, Mac, Fire TV, and through web apps for iPhone, iPad, and select Android phones.
The range of games on offer is growing, but already includes Control, Metro Exodus, Sonic Mania, and GRiD. If you want more, then Amazon also offers a Ubisoft+ subscription for $14.99 a month unlocking access to over 100 games from Ubisoft’s library.
