Amazon has announced that it’s rolling out “faster Same-Day Delivery” to another six US cities, taking the total to 12 cities.
Last year, Amazon decided to start offering a faster version of its Same-Day deliveries covering around three million items in select cities. Eligible customers taking advantage of the service could expect to receive their orders “in just a few hours.”
To begin with, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando, and Dallas got the faster deliveries, but that expanded to include Nashville and Washington, D.C before the end of 2021. The six new cities being added this month are Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Tampa, Charlotte, and Houston, and Amazon has now put a figure on how fast those deliveries will arrive. You’ll have a knock on your door “in as fast as five hours.”
There’s four specific time slots available for Same-Day deliveries that are based on when an order is placed. Ordering between midnight and 8am will see your order arrive by 1pm. Order between 8am-1pm and it arrives by 6pm. Order between 1pm-5pm and it arrives by 10pm, and finally, ordering between 5pm-midnight will see your products arrive by 8am the next morning.
Back in 2019, Amazon pledged to make one-day shipping the standard on Amazon Prime, but Same-Day shipping goes a step beyond that. Amazon even points to it helping to lower carbon emissions because the Same-Day facilities are located very close to the cities being served and therefore cut down on the driving required for deliveries to be made.
