Last month, AMC announced it was expanding the number of ways in which you can pay for movie tickets and concessions. The addition of Apple Pay and Google Pay came as no great surprise, but Bitcoin also got a mention. Now we’ve learned AMC is embracing not one, but four different cryptocurrencies.
In a tweet, AMC CEO Adam Aron confirmed that theaters will accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash as valid payment options. When they will be accepted is still unknown, with Aron stating back in August that the company intends to be “technologically equipped” for cryptocurrencies soon.
Regardless of how many cryptocurrencies AMC supports, it’s their volatility that could prove to be the biggest hurdle. AMC needs to be able to dynamically change the ticket pricing in line with how the value of each currency fluctuates so as to ensure customers aren’t being overcharged or that the company loses money on sales. There also needs to be price parity across the different cryptocurrencies.
