AMD may be preparing to launch a new graphics card for PC gamers on a budget: The Radeon RX 6600.
Portuguese online retailer PCDIGA listed the product, which was spotted by Videocardz. The two-fanned graphics card itself comes from third-party GPU vendor Sapphire, and it’s designed for PC gaming at a 1080p resolution. A picture for the GPU also shows the product box clearly labeled with the name “AMD Radeon RX 6600.”
Based on the listing, the Radeon RX 6600 boasts 1,792 “Stream processors” along with 8GB of GDDR6 RAM. If real, the card would represent a notch below the Radeon 6600 XT, which AMD launched in August starting at $379.
The 6600 XT also has 8GB of GDDR6 RAM, but features 2,048 Stream processors. However, the price is a tad high for the product’s performance, especially if you buy the card from a third-party manufacturer, according to our review, which tested a $499 Gigabyte model.
The Radeon 6600 might provide a better alternative, but the big question will be the pricing. Even though AMD has yet to announce such a product, PCDIGA’s listing says the card is in stock. However, the retailer is selling the product for €589 or US $689, which is almost higher than the official retail cost.
PCDIGA didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. But for weeks now, rumors have been swirling that AMD is slated to launch an Radeon RX 6600 card as soon as next month, likely around the middle of October, according to Videocardz.
The PC market could certainly use more lower-end graphics cards. The most affordable product from this GPU generation is currently Nvidia’s RTX 3060, which starts at $329. Unfortunately, the ongoing semiconductor shortage and rampant scalping has made nearly all graphics cards incredibly difficult to buy from retail outlets at normal retail pricing.
