Among Us is the most popular mobile game in the world, and there’s nothing “sus” about that.
According to The Verge, developer InnerSloth’s cartoony space adventure has amassed 41 million downloads in the US and 264 million downloads worldwide. These numbers come from app analyst Apptopia’s list of most-downloaded titles across the globe.
Among Us beat out popular names like PUBG and Roblox to take the top spot. It’s an even more impressive feat when you consider the game first debuted in 2018. It began picking up steam in 2019, only to reach astronomic levels of popularity in 2020. This was due in part to Twitch streamers and players jumping on board during the coronavirus pandemic.
The game pits players against each other as a crew on a spaceship. All crew members complete special tasks while working to deduce who the “imposter” is before it’s too late. Its unpredictability and potentially hilarious outcomes make it entertaining to both watch and play.
You can pick up Among Us now across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android. It will be headed to the Xbox series of consoles in the near future. There’s also a massive update with a new map to play on dated for “early 2021.”
