Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will be succeeded with a new premium version on December 3rd that can be purchased through a one-time fee.
The free-to-play version of the title is set to shut down on November 28th. The new version, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete, can be bought for a one-off fee of £17.99 ($19.99) and will include most of the game’s previous features.
Players who purchase the title by January 31st, 2024 will get a 50% discount.
Fans of the original – whether free-to-play or otherwise up until now – will have to pay this fee to continue playing after the Pocket Camp servers shut down. They will be able to transfer their progress if they link save data to a Nintendo Account in advance.
Players who don’t link Pocket Camp to a Nintendo Account before its end of service won’t be able to resume playing on Pocket Camp Complete.
Furthermore, data transfers to Pocket Camp Complete will end on June 2nd, 2025, meaning long-time players have six months to buy the new game if they want to maintain their progress.
Inclusions and exclusions
The new title will feature most of Pocket Camp’s content and will allow existing players to carry over their level, saved outfits, crafting materials, Bells and campsite layout.
With this change in monetisation models, the subscription service won’t feature in Pocket Camp Complete. However, many of its contents will be included with the purchase price, including the Merry Memories Plan, Happy Helper Plan and Furniture & Fashion Plan.
Leaf Tickets won’t carry over, though a new item called a Leaf Token will be introduced instead. Online functionality will also be limited, meaning friends will no longer be able to visit each other’s campsites. Instead, they can share customisable Camper Cards with each other to appear in Whistle Pass.
Seasonal events from earlier years will also repeat, continuing a sense of cohesion with the real world.
According to AppMagic data, Pocket Camp has made a total of $377 million in gross revenue to date, but its annual revenue has fallen by over 50% since the pandemic.
