The entire staff of video game publisher Annapurna Interactive have resigned due to an internal dispute.
According to Bloomberg, the resignations followed a dispute between company president Nathan Gary and studio head Megan Ellison.
Negotiations to spin off the video game division as an independent entity fell through when Ellison withdrew from further talks. This led to Gary and other executives resigning, followed by around two dozen additional staff departures.
Collective resignation
“All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned,” according to a statement from Gary and the group via Bloomberg. “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.”
“Our top priority is continuing to support our developer and publishing partners during this transition,” Ellison said in a statement.
“We’re committed to not only our existing slate of games but also expanding our presence in the interactive space as we continue to look for opportunities to take a more integrated approach to linear and interactive storytelling across film and TV, gaming, and theatre.”
Annapurna’s new president, Hector Sanchez, assured developers that the company will honour existing contracts and replace resigned staff.
Remedy Entertainment recently announced a partnership with Annapurna to fund Control 2 and develop Alan Wake TV and film adaptations. In response to the news, some developers like Davey Wreden reassured fans that their projects, including Wanderstop, remain on track.
The US-based publisher has brought several acclaimed titles to mobile platforms, including Twelve Minutes, The Pathless, Journey, Donut County, Florence and others.
