Another Code: Recollection is the new Switch remake of the Nintendo-published DS and Wii cult-classic story-driven adventure games Another Code: Two Memories (known as Trace Memory in North America) and Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories. Beyond the expected visual updates, Another Code: Recollection also completely remixes the games’ puzzles, meaning even those familiar with the originals will find themselves on new ground.
One of your main goals during the middle stretch of Another Code: Two Memories is collecting the three Another Keys – special memory cards needed for your DAS. Collecting the first of these requires several steps, including figuring out how to solve a tricky piano-related puzzle, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to solve the piano puzzle and get that first Another Key…
Note: While our Another Code: Recollection guides stay away from specific story details, they may still contain some SPOILERS. Proceed accordingly.
- Step 1 – After you’ve collected the Flower Key and Three-Leaf Clover Key from the Butler’s room, head to the second-floor east wing of the mansion. Use the Flower Key to open Frannie’s Room. Here you’ll find a small box with several spots to place dolls on the top.
- Step 2 – Inspect the box of building blocks in Frannie’s Room. Remove the blocks and at the bottom you’ll find a doll of a fatherly-looking figure with one arm.
- Step 3 – Use the Three-Leaf Clover Key to open Henry and Marie’s room (it’s next to Frannie’s Room in the upper east wing). In this room, examine the vanity near the beds. In the drawer, you’ll find a mom-ish doll.
- Step 4 – Head back to Frannie’s room. You want to arrange the dolls so they’re holding hands with the little girl in the middle in a nice family scene. This will cause the box to open. The gold Sprout Key is inside.
- Step 5 – Use the Sprout Key on the Golden Bird Room (once again, it’s right beside Frannie’s Room). In here, you’ll find an irritatingly askew painting of a humming bird. Straighten it and a piece of sheet music will fall out. Hmmm!
- Step 6 – Save yourself an extra trip and take a picture of the hummingbird painting while you’re here.
- Step 7 – Now, head back to the Drawing Room where the piano is. Put the sheet music on the piano. But it seems there’s only half the notes needed to play the song. What to do?
- Step 8 – Okay, this step can be frustrating, as the game does not explain this mechanic well. First, take a picture of the sheet music sitting on the piano. Now, open your DAS and the photo gallery. Look at the hummingbird painting I told you to take a picture of before – notice there’s actually a bar with notes along the top edge of the picture. Now, you’ll also notice in the gallery you can actually overlay one photo overtop another. Overlay the hummingbird painting on the picture of the sheet music. Align them so that the bar and notes on the painting match the blank bar on the sheet music. Line it up right, and the notes will be added to the sheet music, and you can play the music properly. This will cause a box to drop out of the piano. Open the box to find your first Another Key.
And there you go! Some slightly wonky leaps of logic required there, but you now have your first Another Key. Now, go get the next two!
