Google is rolling out an update for Chromium-based browsers to fix a bug that killed certain features for Windows 10 machines running antivirus software.
As TechRadar reports, those using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on PCs running antivirus software or software that briefly locked new files had reported trouble using tools like bookmarks.
Google’s Chrome for Windows team engineer, Bruce Dawson, took to the Chromium Gerrit on Dec. 29 with details about the fix. “Anti-virus programs and other scanners may briefly lock new files which can lead to frequent problems with saving bookmarks and other files that use the ImportantFileWriter,” he writes.
Previously, the only real fix was to turn off antivirus software. This isn’t a viable solution for many, especially for users who rely on real-time scanning features on their machines.
The fix, which is already available in Chromium, is coming to Chrome, Edge, and other browsers soon. There’s no timeline listed, but if you’re experiencing these issues, keep an eye out for the latest updates.
