British games company Antstream has laid off an undisclosed number of employees working on its retro platform game Antstream Arcade.
The company’s former PR and communications manager Diane Hutchinson, and UI designer Robyn Jamieson both took to LinkedIn to share news of their job losses and expressed interest in new roles.
“The games industry is currently facing a very challenging period,” said Antstream in a statement to Gamesindustry.biz. “Due to a strategic shift in focus internally, we have made the difficult decision to make a small number of redundancies within the Antstream Arcade team.”
Support for those laid off
“This decision was not made lightly,” read the statement. “And we will be working to support those affected throughout the process. Antstream Arcade remains dedicated to delivering the best possible experience to our players.”
Founded by Steve Cottam in 2013, Antstream Arcade is a cloud-based gaming service featuring titles from classic consoles like the NES, Atari 2600, and original PlayStation.
Backed by investments from Tencent and Atari, the platform is available on PCs, Android devices, and various smart TVs. In July 2023, it became the first third-party cloud service to launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Antstream’s newest layoffs follow the recent job cuts at Nexon America, which were part of the company’s reorganisation.
