Magnets and medical devices can be a dangerous combination, and Apple is well aware of that since it introduced the iPhone 12 and MagSafe accessories. Now the company has provided a complete list of Apple products that should be kept a safe distance away from devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
You may remember back in January Apple published a support document informing iPhone 12 owners that the smartphone and its MagSafe accessories “might interfere” with medical devices. It was due to the additional magnets these products contain, but they aren’t the only Apple devices using more magnets “or components and radios that emit electromagnetic fields.”
As MacRumors reports, Apple has now shared the full list of its products consumers need to be aware of if they intend to use them around medical devices. The list is surprisingly long and shared below in alphabetical order:

- AirPods Pro and Wireless Charging Case
- AirPods Max and Smart Case
- Apple Pro Display XDR
- Apple Watch
- Apple Watch bands with magnets
- Apple Watch magnetic charging accessories
- Beats Flex
- Beats X
- HomePod
- HomePod mini
- iMac
- iPad
- iPad mini
- iPad Air
- iPad Pro
- iPad Smart Covers and Smart Folios
- iPad Smart Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio
- iPhone 12 models
- Mac mini
- Mac Pro
- MacBook Air
- MacBook Pro
- Magic Keyboard for iPad
- MagSafe accessories
- PowerBeats Pro

Apple’s advice when using any of these products is to “avoid any potential interactions with these types of medical devices, keep your Apple product a safe distance away from your medical device (more than 6 inches / 15 cm apart or more than 12 inches / 30 cm apart if wirelessly charging). Consult with your physician and your device manufacturer for specific guidelines.”
There are magnets contained in other Apple products not on the list, but Apple believes it’s unlikely any of them will interfere with medical devices. It does seem likely the list above will continue to expand as Apple releases new products, though. MagSafe and wireless charging are here to stay.
