It’s been about a year since our last Apple TV+ price hike, and that means it must be time for another one.
Apple just announced a variety of price increases for its various subscription services and Apple TV+ is one of them; happily, Apple Music prices aren’t going up, or at least not during this round.
Starting immediately, Apple TV+ will cost $9.99 a month, up from $6.99/month for a 43-percent increase, according to MacRumors. Yep, ouch. Annual Apple TV+ subscriptions are going up to, from $69 a year to $99/year.
Also going up are prices for Apple Arcade (to $6.99 a month from $4.99/month) and Apple News+ (now $12.99 a month, formerly $9.99/month).
Consequently, Apple One bundles are getting price hikes, with individual plans now $19.95 a month (was $16.95/month), family plans up to $25.95 a month (formerly $22.95 a month), and “premier” plans rising to $37.95 a month (up from $32.95/month).
The last time Apple raised the price of Apple TV+ was last October, when the plans went from $4.99 a month (the initial launch price) to $6.99 a month.
The Apple TV+ price hike comes on the heels of price increases for pretty much every other big streaming service. Netflix’s price hike was the most recent, with the service jacking up prices for its 4K premium plan to $22.99 a month, a $3-a-month price increase, while basic plans went up to $11.99 a month from $9.99/month.
Disney+, Hulu, and Peacock recently raised their prices, while Max and Paramount+ users got de-facto price increases when those two services rejiggered their plans following various rebrandings and content merges.
While Apple Music didn’t see a price increase today, Apple previously boosted prices on its music streaming service last October. With that price hike, Apple Music broke the $9.99/month barrier for individual music streaming plans, landing on a $10.99/month price point that’s since become the norm.
