Studio Wildcard’s dinosaur hunter Ark: Survival Evolved is getting a new mobile iteration later this year, wrapping every expansion pack into one neat bundle in time for the holiday season.
Titled Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition, this definitive version includes the Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, and Genesis Parts 1 & 2 DLCs, bringing new maps and time periods to the game. The package has already been released on PS4, Nintendo Switch and Steam, and is finally making the move to mobile in late 2024.
It’s a similar progression to Ultimate Survivor’s predecessor, the base version of Ark: Survival Evolved, which released on PC and console in 2017 before its mobile launch in June 2018.
In the six years since, the action-adventure game has generated $48.3 million in gross revenue across Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store, according to AppMagic data.
The prehistoric predecessor
The announcement of an Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition port comes after three years of declining consumer spending in Survival Evolved’s mobile version. The game generated $3.6 million across the whole of 2023 on the platform, down from $7 million in 2022 and $10.1 million in 2021. During its most lucrative year, 2020, the title earned $10.9 million from mobile gamers.
Now over halfway through 2024, Survival Evolved has generated $1.4 million so far this year.
The US market has contributed the most revenue to the game at a 51% share over its lifetime on mobile, followed by Japan at 15% and South Korea at 4%.
Looking at downloads, AppMagic data suggests Survival Evolved has been downloaded 49.3 million times across Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store, with the US again representing the largest share at 19%. Brazil and Thailand rank second and third with 9% and 7% of total installs, respectively.
Over the last 30 days, the game has garnered approximately 889,000 downloads, with Brazil making up 25% of total installs. Vietnam and the US followed at 10% and 8%, respectively.
Please note: All AppMagic figures unless otherwise stated are gross revenue, to account for App Store and Google Play’s 30% fees. Estimates do not account for player spending on non-mobile platforms, third-party Android stores, web shop revenue or ad revenue.
