Larian Studios might again have teased a Baldur’s Gate 3 physical release ahead of this year’s Game Awards event.
Last month, Larian’s Michael Douse asked PS5 players whether they would like a physical release of the game. He later added that, if this were to happen, it would be on two separate discs. Yesterday, the Belgian studio took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that the team is proud to be nominated in several categories at The Game Awards 2023. In addition, the team teased that news about the Xbox version of the title is inbound. Simultaneously, the studio seemingly teased a physical release. “Xbox fans, and fans of physical media, watch this space for a formal announcement”, the post on X reads. “It’s going to be a busy week.”

With this in mind, it’s likely that we’ll soon be learning more about a release date on Xbox as well as a boxed release of the game. Whether this applies to the PlayStation or Xbox version (or both) remains to be seen. Interestingly, earlier this month, it was claimed that the Xbox Series version of Baldur’s Gate would be released on December 6 – one day before The Game Awards 2023. Later on, Larian’s Michael Douse sort of debunked this ‘rumor’ by saying that this would be “news” to him. The Director of Publishing added, “We’ll know the release date once we’re confident in the release version. The plan is still before the end of the year. The key takeaway here should be that we want a really good version that Xbox fans deserve. This means we’ll work on it until we’re happy to release it.”
We’ll update you as soon as we learn more about this matter. For now, stay tuned.
Baldur’s Gate is available globally now for PC and PlayStation 5. The Xbox version will be released later this year.
