Bayonetta made an appearance at today’s Nintendo Direct via a full-on gameplay trailer for Bayonetta 3. Not only is the Umbran Witch back, but she’s returning with a new-old look. Bayonetta is shown here in a style that mirrors her younger self, shown in the first Bayonetta game with the character Cereza. The game will launch in 2022.
Bayonetta 3 is an upcoming entry in the hack-and-slash action series Bayonetta, which started in 2009. The game was originally announced four years ago during the 2017 Game Awards. Since then. PlatinumGames has said next to nothing about it. We’ve gotten many reassurances that Bayonetta 3‘s development has been going smooth from both Nintendo and Platinum, but lack of footage or even screenshots had left fans a bit worried.
During the new gameplay trailer, we see that Bayonetta will be able to summon her pets kaiju-style and use them to fight against other giant monsters. It’s a much closer look at the game than anything we’ve seen since its 2017 logo reveal.
Bayonetta 3‘s 2022 release window was leaked earlier in the day. Nintendo’s Japanese website was updated to show that the third entry in the series was scheduled to release in 2022. Previously, the game had no release window. The same website also leaked Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which was shown during the Nintendo Direct as well.
Bayonetta 3 joins a busy 2022 game lineup for Nintendo, which includes Splatoon 3, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.
