A popular artist has created an Xbox controller mock-up inspired by the band Smash Mouth. POPeArt, who has created some incredible mock-ups and real products before, is behind the new controller designed themed around the “All Star” band that has been in the news lately.
The design features Smash Mouth’s yellow-and-orange color scheme and the band’s name written across the face. The letters sort of disappear into the background and look like shapes until you look closer. Like POPEaArt’s previous work, this is pretty great as well.
Unfortunately for Smash Mouth fans, singer Steve Harwell recently announced that he is retiring following a final chaotic show. Harwell was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy years ago and has faced other illnesses affecting his motor functions.
At an upstate New York gig recently where he acted erratically, Harwell was “going through an episode,” TMZ reported. He told the site, “I’ve tried so hard to power through my physical and mental health issues, and to play in front of you one last time, but I just wasn’t able to.”
In other news, it was recently discovered that POPeArt created the custom Game Pass-themed controllers given to Xbox employees to celebrate the success of the program.
Unfortunately for everyone else, this controller is not being sold commercially. That said, anyone can create their own custom Xbox controller using the Design Lab. Additionally, a 20th anniversary translucent Xbox controller is arriving in November.
