2015’s Broforce is one of the most memorable indie games of the 2010s, and now it’s getting an overwhelming free update that adds a massive amount of new content to the game. According to the announcement trailer, this includes a revamped campaign, new Bros to play, and four new challenge levels. It’s also coming to Xbox One for the first time via Game Pass.
If you haven’t played it before, Broforce is a delightfully over-the-top shooter game in the vein of Contra that parodies action movies like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and the Expendables. As shown in the above trailer, the update adds a few new playable characters to the game who are ripped directly from pop culture, including Seth Brondle (The Fly), Xebro (Xena: Warrior Princess), Desperabro (Desperado), Bro Gummer (Tremors), Demolition Bro (Demolition Man), and Broffy the Vampire Slayer (I think you can guess this one).
Broforce Forever also adds a few new features to the game, including new enemies, new levels, new machines to pilot, and more flexing. It also has quite a few bug fixes, though the specifics on those are not clear at this point. The update will come to PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One on August 8. Broforce currently has an 97% “overwhelmingly positive” rating on Steam, which is quite rare, even among popular games.
