Call of Duty 4 received today an RTX Remix Path Tracing mod that breathes new life into one of the best entries in the series.
The mod, which can be downloaded from GitHub, is based on the RTX Remix Runtime released last year and not on the creation tools that will enter open beta in ten days, so the path tracing implementation isn’t perfect. However, it is still pretty good, everything considered, as lighting is vastly improved in certain scenarios, as seen in the videos below.
Call of Duty 4 isn’t the only game that received an RTX Path Tracing mod following the release of last year’s RTX Remix Runtime. Games like the original Tomb Raider and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas look incredible with path tracing, so it will be very interesting to see what modders and developers will be able to do once the official creation tools are available to the public.

NVIDIA RTX Remix, built on NVIDIA Omniverse, is an end-to-end platform for remastering DirectX 8 and 9 games with fixed function pipelines, such as Call of Duty 2, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Garry’s Mod, Freedom Fighters, Need for Speed Underground 2, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Remix consists of a creator app for remastering assets, and a runtime for capturing original game assets and injecting remastered assets back into the game.
