Celebrity-for-hire video platform Cameo is expanding into live calls. The app, known for its library of stars ready to record personalized video messages for a fee, this week unveiled Cameo Calls.
Fans are invited to connect with their favorite actors, athletes, artists, and influencers in “the ultimate digital meet and greet,” according to Cameo. Choose from more than 500 available “talent” for up to 15 minutes of chat; celebs set the duration and price of their call, which can be memorialized at the end with a photo opp.
“Armed with learnings from 40,000 of the world’s most diverse talent as a testing pool, and demand from fans around the world, we set out to build an experience that provides real-time connections between fans and talent—from anywhere,” Nundu Janakiram, vice president of product at Cameo, said in a statement.
Early adopters include James and Oliver Phelps (Harry Potter film series), James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), soap star Scott Evans, social media personality Duke Depp, David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place), recording artist Mya, Symonne Harrison (The Affair), and Dana DeLorenzo (Ash vs Evil Dead). An official Cameo Calls video (above), meanwhile, features faces like Tom Felton (also of Harry Potter fame), Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy), and skateboard legend Tony Hawk.
Cameo Calls are housed on individual talent pages and within the app’s calendar, where users can see a schedule of upcoming conversations and prices; purchase a ticket to receive a unique code that acts as your entry to a call.
“In limited testing, we’ve already enabled nearly 3,000 connections through Cameo Calls,” Janakiram said, “and seen talent get creative with themed meet and greets, coffee chats, private concerts, and even tarot card readings.”
