Rainbow Six Extraction, a new addition to Ubisoft’s wildly popular Rainbow Six Siege universe, arrives on Jan. 20 in a variety of formats, including PC and PC game-streaming services—provided your computer can handle all the first-person-shooter action.
Why the Rainbow Six Extraction Hype?
Rainbow Six Siege had a slow start in 2015, thanks in part to technical and structural issues, IGN notes, but tweaks and the introduction of new gameplay elements—from new maps and characters with unique abilities to special modes—helped it rise from the ashes.
One of those special gameplay modes, Rainbow Six Outbreak, was a first taste of what would become Rainbow Six Extraction, which offers familiar gunplay and operators, but breaks from the rinse-and-repeat nature of the competitive shooter. Instead, Extraction is a player-versus-environment (PvE) co-op experience where up to three players can form a squad.
“Assemble your elite team of Rainbow Six operators to launch incursions into the containment zones and discover the mysteries behind the lethal alien threat called the Archæns,” Ubisoft says. “Band together and put everything on the line as you take on an unknown enemy.”
