You can share family photos, memes, and videos on Facebook. Now, you can upload your own custom rap videos, too.
According to TechCrunch, Facebook’s internal R&D group NPE Team just launched its newest app: Bars. Using Bars, you can record and share 60-second videos of raps created with professional beats.
The app says it’ll deliver “studio quality vocal effects,” including AutoTune. There’s also a way to select your rap experience level upon sign-up: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. Selecting Beginner will net you a handy auto-rhyme dictionary to help kickstart your bars. Advanced rappers get a Freestyle mode with several words to try and weave into a custom rap.
When you’ve created your video, you can share it with the rest of the Bars community or post it on social media.
From the promotional video posted to Instagram, Bars looks to offer high-fidelity audio. There’s no way to preview the types of beats it will include. The sample provided to promote it, however, is a quality example of what it will hopefully be capable of. That will vary from user to user, of course.
This isn’t Facebook’s first brush with musical apps. Previously, NPE Team launched Collab in 2020. Though not meant for creating raps, it lets users work together to create collaborative songs. Each musician records their own part to create a song. It’s different from Bars in that users have to provide their own music. But both are interesting options for creators looking to make something shareable.
Bars is currently in closed beta. You can sign up to reserve your username by downloading the app. You’ll receive a notification when you can officially start creating raps.
Right now, it’s only available for iOS users, but that could change in the future. Facebook hasn’t yet confirmed an Android version.
