As is the case every single year since 2008, for the holiday shopping season, people always spend more than the year before. In 2020 it was $185.88 billion in the US alone, according to Statista. 2021 is projected to hit $206.88 billion.
A lot of that money is going toward new tech. We approve—but not all gadgets are worthwhile purchases. There’s a point of diminishing returns with almost any overpriced item you buy, especially digital toys that depreciate the instant the box is open.
